How to correct VLC media player subtitles
By bgomes
First, for those who don't know the VLC is a very versatile, free and open-source multimedia player. Plays various types of audio and video files (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg,...), and exists for moust operating systems (check on official page).
To solve a problem that occurs when installing the VLC (version 0.8.6c) in ubuntu via apt-get.
When i install VLC (version 0.8.6c) in my ubuntu via apt-get, i use to get a little problem, what happens is that some quotes of the subtitles are not visible, they simply don't appear, yhis leads to a bad experience whith this great video player.
Solving this problem is actually very simple, just change the encoding of subtitles for the right codification, in this case the ISO-8859-1.
The steps to resolve the problem are:
- Open the VLC, click Settings -> Preferences
- Open Input / Codecs -> Other Codecs *
- Select: Subtitles *
- In "Subtitles text encoding" select: ISO-8859-1
Then just click Save to save the changes and restart the VLC, and the subtitles will be presented without problems.
